SPRINGFIELD - Land of Lincoln Honor Flight is cleared for take-off! After being grounded for two years due to COVID restrictions and related health concerns, Land of Lincoln Honor Flight (LLHF) is pleased to announce that current conditions allow us to resume flights to honor our veterans. We have planned five (5) flights for 2022 on June 14, July 19, August 30, September 27 and November 1, 2022. The mission of Land of Lincoln Honor Flight is to show gratitude for our World War II, Korean era, and Vietnam era veterans by taking them - free of charge – from Springfield to Washington DC to visit the memorials dedicated to their service. Joan Bortolon, Land of Lincoln Honor Flight President, issued the following statement: “We are thrilled to be able to resume our flight schedule and start serving the over 700 veterans on our waitlist. SPRINGFIELD – The 2022 Illinois spring trout fishing season will open April 2 at 57 ponds, lakes and streams throughout the state. An early opportunity at select trout sites – the spring catch-and-release fishing season – will open March 19. No trout may be kept during the catch-and-release fishing period, but anglers can keep trout after the opening of the regular season beginning April 2. The Illinois Catchable Trout Program is funded by those who use the program through the sale of inland trout stamps. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) stocks more than 80,000 rainbow trout each year in bodies of water where trout fishing is permitted during the spring season. An additional 80,000 trout will be stocked for the fall trout fishing season, which begins in October. For the 2022 spring trout season, no trout may be taken from any of the stocked sites from March 14 until the season opens at 5 a.m. April 2. Anyone attempting to harvest trout before

WEST FRANKFORT – Centerstone, a national leader in behavioral health care, received a $2,500 grant from Ameren Illinois to help address Centerstone clients’ basic needs and set them up for treatments. That can include helping with temporary shelter; transportation to treatment, jobs and medical appointments; non-perishable food, and more. “Many members of the community – individuals and families – who come to Centerstone for help are homeless, hungry, and without transportation or phones, in addition to suffering from mental health or substance use disorders. LOUIS - The Illinois State Police District 11 released information that they responded to a report of an expressway shooting at 6:39 a.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Milepost 3, East St. Louis in St. Clair County. GODFREY - A man accused of crashing a pickup truck into a 2-year-old girl and her dog, killing both, has pleaded guilty to failure to report an accident involving injury or death. Paul Broadway, 64, of Godfrey, was charged after an Aug. 31, 2020, accident in which the pickup truck he was driving crashed into Ellee Grace Kiser, 2, of Godfrey. The victim ran into the roadway at Pine Grove and West Broadway. The child died at St. Anthony’s Health Center a day later of head injuries. Broadway left the scene but was arrested by Alton police the next day. Broadway pleaded guilty Monday in exchange for a prosecution agreement that he be sentenced to no more than eight years in prison. A sentencing hearing will be held at a later date. At a press conference shortly after the accident, Sheriff John Lakin said that, after the accident was reported, the Sheriff’s Office was flooded with calls from the public. FLORA - On March 9, 2022, Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Zone 8 announce the arrest of Phillip Blaine Henson, a 52-year-old male from Flora, IL, for Drug Induced Homicide (Class X Felony). On November 17, 2022, at approximately 1:26 p.m., the ISP DCI - Zone 8 was requested to conduct a death investigation in Flora, IL. A female, later identified as Stephanie L. Harrell, a 54-year-old of Flora, IL, was found deceased in her vehicle parked in an agricultural field entrance on Olive Street, just north of US Highway 50 in Clay County. On March 8, 2022, Phillip Blaine Henson was charged with Drug Induced Homicide (Class X Felony), filed in the Circuit Court for the Fourth Judicial Circuit of Illinois in Clay County. Henson is currently detained at the Vanderburgh County Jail in Evansville, Indiana with bond of $1,000,000 / 10 % to apply. No further information is available at this time. WOOD RIVER - It's been said that of all the sports that anyone could take up, wrestling is perhaps the one sport that requires the most discipline and sacrifice of all. It's constant weight-watching, requires very hard work and a lot of sacrifices, both of self and for the team. It's not an easy sport to master. In the case of eight-year-old Karson Stoeckel of Wood River, he may very well be on his way to becoming a top high school and college wrestler in the future. Stoeckel recently won the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation bantam state championship at 46 pounds in a tournament held at Bolingbrook High School in suburban Chicago. EDWARDSVILLE - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville has received $1.5 million in funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) in support of a novel model for graduate education that removes financial barriers and increases diversity in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. SPRINGFIELD – With more than 150 wineries statewide, Illinois is a leader in wine operations. To offer financial relief to struggling makers, State Senator Rachelle Aud Crowe (D-Glen Carbon) advanced legislation to lower licensing fees for first-class manufacturers. “Wineries are unique small businesses servicing communities throughout the entire state,” Crowe said. “By re-implementing the previous licensing fees, we can offer financial support to wine operators as they work to bounce back following pandemic-related burdens.” In partnership with the Illinois Grape Growers and Vintners Association, Crowe’s measure lowers the licensing fees for first-class wine manufacturers to $750 if renewed online and $900 for initial or non-online certification. EAST ST. LOUIS - Randy Goodwin, 56, of Belleville, Illinois, pled guilty today to a two count information charging him with making false statements to obtain federal disability compensation under the Federal Employees’ Compensation Act. According to court documents, Goodwin began receiving federal disability payments after he was injured working for the United States Postal Service in 2013. After his injury, Goodwin began working at his family’s restaurant, Good Heavens BBQ, in East St. Louis, Illinois. Annual disability forms require recipients to disclose additional earned income and employment. However, to avoid a reduction of his benefits, Goodwin falsely reported that he had not worked for any employers or had any involvement in any businesses for several years. This caused the United States Postal Service to pay him more in disability than he truly deserved. As a result of his plea, Goodwin will lose all disability benefits going forward. BENTON – Bryan Flanagan, 35, of Centralia, Illinois, was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison on Thursday, March 3, 2022, on two counts of distribution of child pornography and five counts of interstate communication with intent to extort. Flanagan pleaded guilty to charges in federal court on September 16, 2021. Flanagan extorted multiple minor girls online to send him sexual videos and images. Beginning in February 2020, Flanagan used fake profiles pretending to be a teenage boy on Facebook to contact multiple underage girls across the United States. Flanagan pressured and threatened his victims into sending him sexually explicit videos and images. When some victims refused to do so, Flanagan lied and told them that he was babysitting a young child and would rape or molest the child unless his online victims sent him the requested images. Flanagan distributed images of child pornography to at least two of his victims. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood,

Her time with the District dates back to her college education when she completed her field experience at Hamel and her student teaching at Nelson. Upon graduation, she was hired as a long-term substitute teacher at Nelson. Rodgers then taught 13 years at Woodland, two years at Goshen, and one year at Cassens – all in cross-cat – before returning to Woodland, where she has been the last three years teaching SEL. “I have always known I wanted to be a teacher. JERSEYVILLE - The opening of Germania Brew Haus’s upcoming Jerseyville location, originally planned for mid-March, has been delayed. Owner Jared Brynildsen said cold temperatures have delayed the construction of the site’s parking lot. He also said the Illinois Department of Transportation took 60 days longer than expected to send back their approval for the drive-thru. Brynildsen said he expects the drive-thru construction to be completed by the end of the month, with official soft and grand opening dates for this location still pending. So far, he said the attached children’s play area is still on track to be completed along with the rest of the renovation. This delay comes just under three weeks after the opening of Germania’s Eastgate Plaza location in East Alton.
