BRIGHTON - A man from Medora has been charged in Jersey County with residential burglary and theft after stealing a four-wheeler and more from a Brighton residence. Kyle E. Wallace, 38, of Medora, was charged with one count each of residential burglary and theft over $500. On June 17, 2024, Wallace allegedly entered a residence in Brighton without authority, intending to commit a theft. He was additionally charged with stealing a red 1990 Honda four-wheeler and various coins; the stolen items had a combined value over $500. A petition to deny his pretrial release notes Wallace’s “extensive criminal history,” including prior charges of driving under the influence and domestic battery, as well as firearm and drug offenses. Wallace was also previously convicted of residential burglary and, while committing this latest offense, was on pretrial release from a case of unlawful weapon possession by a felon. Wallace faces a Class 1 felony for the burglary charge

SPRINGFIELD - Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs returned a record $301 million to 321,558 Illinois residents through the state’s missing money program during Fiscal Year 2024. “Putting money back in people’s pockets helps families and our state’s economy,” Frerichs said. “This money belongs with its rightful owners, and we have added tools to return more of it.” Illinois’ missing money program — also known as I-CASH — is one of the state’s oldest consumer protection initiatives. CASEYVILLE – The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that lane restrictions will be encountered on southbound I-255, at the I-64 interchange, beginning Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 7 a.m. weather permitting. The two right lanes will be closed to allow IDOT District 8 Operations forces to complete bridge deck patching and expansion joint repairs. All lanes are expected to reopen by Friday, August 23, 2024, at 3 p.m. Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment. ALTON - The Upper Alton Association will host its Rockin with Robert Concert from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, at the Robert Wadlow statue, 2810 College Ave., Alton. The concert will feature the band Porch Cafe, which was originally scheduled to perform in June but was postponed due to inclement weather. “We tried something different this year and held concerts every Tuesday in June. We have had such a great turnout we decided to do an extra concert,” said Debbie Frakes, President of the Upper Alton Association. WOOD RIVER — Jayden Ulrich received a hero's welcome on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, at the Wood River Recreation Center. The event saw a large turnout of former teammates, friends, and families, all eager to celebrate the hometown Olympian's achievements. Ulrich, who recently turned 21, was visibly elated by the warm reception and expressed her gratitude to the crowd. ALTON - St. Mary’s Catholic Church has welcomed Alton’s newest parochial vicar to their ranks. Father Jorge Sanchez was recently ordained as a priest in the Catholic Church. He will now serve as the parochial vicar at St. Mary’s, meaning he will be at St. Mary’s until he is reassigned to another parish. EDWARDSVILLE - Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski and Edwardsville Mayor Art Risavy held a press conference to discuss a $21,241,730 grant that the City of Edwardsville has received from the U.S. Department of Transportation. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO. — On Monday, Aug. 12, 2024, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued charges against Tony Artice, Jr., 37, of the 7300 block of Grand Drive, St. Louis, for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. Artice is currently held on a $25,000 cash-only bond. The charges stem from an incident that occurred on Aug. 11, 2024. At approximately 5:52 p.m., St. Louis County Police received a call regarding an accident involving a motorcyclist and an SUV that had fled the scene. The motorcyclist, identified as Michael Bartholomew, 41, of the 400 block of Constellation Drive in Arnold, Mo., was transported to Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. According to the probable cause statement, Artice arrived at a St. Louis County Police Department precinct at approximately 7:30 p.m. on the same day to report his involvement in the accident.
