LITCHFIELD - The Litchfield Pickers Market returns Sunday, September, 3, 2023, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at 400 N. State St. in downtown Litchfield. This vintage and antique market is a fun, family-friendly event and we are excited to welcome back visitors and vendors for the third market of the season. It is the largest open-air pickers market in the region and specializes in antiques, collectibles, vintage items and refurbished items. Each month the market welcomes musicians to perform at the Carnegie Park stage. CHICAGO – Dierbergs in Shiloh is celebrating after one of their local lottery players racked up a large win - a $277,728 jackpot prize - playing Fast Play Twenty 20s. EDWARDSVILLE — An Alton Man has been sentenced to 135 years in prison in connection with the shootings of three people, including a woman whose leg was nearly severed. Madison County State's Attorney Thomas Haine announced on Wednesday that Steven Foster, 37, received the sentence in the Madison County Circuit Court. Following a week-long jury trial in March, Foster was found guilty of three counts of attempted first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm. “This is a repeat criminal. This isn’t the first time he has terrorized our community, but it’s definitely the last,” Haine said. ALTON - We’re Outside owner Troy Hughes had an experience he will never forget earlier this week. While serving lunch at his new popular restaurant, he had a visit from the Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker at his business. Alton Mayor David Goins said Pritzker was passing through on his way back to Springfield and he wanted to stop in at an Alton restaurant. We’re Outside, a business at 1692 Oakwood Avenue, was the business he chose to visit. Gov. Pritzker expressed to Hughes how proud he was for what he did, building the business essentially with his own hands over the past year and a half. ST. LOUIS COUNTY - The St. Louis County Police Department has identified a victim in an accidental lawn mower death that occurred in the area of Halls Ferry Road and St. Cyr Road. The man has been identified as Chadd Hackl, 44, of the 1900 block of Redman Road in St. Louis, Mo., 63138. At 9:10 a.m. on August 29, 2023, St. Louis County police officers from the City of Jennings Precinct responded to a call for service for an injury in the area of Halls Ferry Road and St. Cyr Road. Arriving officers located an adult male pinned beneath a large lawnmower in a body of water. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene. "Preliminary investigation has revealed it appears the operator, a St. Louis County employee, was operating the mower when it rolled down an embankment, pinning the employee underneath the mower," the St. Louis County Police Department said in a statement. Letter To The Editor: The Illinois Network for Pretrial Justice opposes the Office of Statewide Pretrial Services’ launch of an Electronic Monitoring program that will cover 70 counties , many of which have never used electronic monitoring for people awaiting trial. The announcement of this program in conjunction with the implementation of the Pretrial Fairness Act is of particular concern. There is no reason for Illinois to expand its use of electronic monitoring in response to ending money bond. The law simply ensures that people who would have been required to purchase their freedom in the past are allowed to return to their homes, families, and jobs while awaiting trial without having to empty their bank account or otherwise languish in jail if they could not afford their money bond. Requiring anyone to wear an ankle shackle and be monitored in lieu of having to pay bond is an injustice that is in direct conflict with the spirit of the law and its intended impact.

JERSEYVILLE - A man from Wood River was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle while another from Cottage Hills was arrested on DUI charges in Jersey County last week, according to recent court filings. Annielo D. Valentin, 23, of Wood River, was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle after reportedly exerting “unauthorized control” over a 2005 Chevrolet Impala belonging to someone else on or about Aug. 23, 2023. Valentin was charged with a Class 2 felony and his bail was set at $25,000. James C. Cox, 51, of Cottage Hills, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving on a revoked license. According to the State’s Attorney’s description of the charges, Cox drove a white 1986 Suzuki motorcycle while under the influence of alcohol on West County Road in Jersey County. Cox had previously been charged with driving under the influence on the following dates and in the following counties: Feb. 4, 1999 in Macoupin County Jan.

Alton High head girls tennis coach Jesse Macias said Lilly is a junior captain and leader on the court for the Redbirds' team. Lilly is an Auto Butler Female Athlete of the Month for the Redbirds. Lilly was fourth at No. 1 singles in the Springfield Invite this past Saturday. "Lilly played number one singles last year, and it was a rough season at times," Macias said. ALTON - Alton High School went on what Principal Mike Bellm described as "a soft lockdown" on Wednesday with limited passes within the school. "We just decided to go on soft lockdown following a couple of incidents we had to address," the principal said. A Riverbender.com reporter on the scene after school Wednesday observed the school buses loaded and departing with some Madison County Sheriff's Office deputies present. Administrators and teachers were outside the building observing the students as they loaded the buses. The Madison County Sheriff's Office also had deputies at the scene in the morning after the incidents occurred. Bellm did not want to elaborate any more about the incidents at this time but said the soft lockdown would continue until the end of the day. However, he explained everything was under control quickly this morning after the incidents.

Last season, she qualified for state as an individual to go along with her doubles team Tessa Crawford and Elise Noble. ROXANA - “I think he’s going to be a force this year," Roxana head football coach Wade DeVries said about one of his star running backs, junior Andruw Ellis. He said that after a 27-0 win over the Jerseyville Panthers in Roxana's home-opener last Friday, a game that Ellis scored four rushing touchdowns. Ellis ran in scores of 23, 60, 58, and 68 yards en route to finishing with 305 yards total on the night. That was enough to break a 34-year record set back in 1989 by Jon Hardy. He used 29 carries to get 304 yards. Ellis got to 305 yards with 12 carries and now holds the program record. MADISON COUNTY – The Salvation Army After School Program takes place at 525 Alby Street in Alton, each school day from 3-6 p.m. This supervised program is free of charge for students 5-15 years of age and includes help with homework, tutoring for reading skills and dinner. During the 2022-2023 school year, the program served 2,257 meals. “We provide food, help with school work and a devotional lesson,” said Youth Director Adam Thiel. “This year we will be offering NASP Archery twice a month, time in the gym, and more seasonal crafts.
