LOUIS COUNTY - The deceased in a fatal accident in the 9800 block of Halls Ferry Road in the North County Precinct at 12:20 p.m. on Oct. 13, 2022, has been identified as Lucy Jones, 92 years of age, of the 4300 block of Sulla Drive, in Florissant, MO., 63033. St. Louis County Police Crimes Against Persons detectives and the Accident Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal motor crash in the 9800 block of Halls Ferry Road which resulted in the death of an adult female. On October 13, 2022, at 12:20 PM, St. Louis County police officers from the North County Precinct responded to a call for service for a motor vehicle accident in the 9800 block of Halls Ferry Road. Arriving officers located two motor vehicles involved in a motor vehicle crash. SPRINGFIELD - Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs’ office made history this week when it returned $11 million to the estate of a Chicago man who died of natural causes just before Christmas in 2016. It is the largest returned unclaimed property dollar amount in the nation’s history. Most of Joseph Richard Stancak’s 119 heirs reside in Poland, where his parents were born, as well as Slovakia. GODFREY - A series of three Chili Drive-Thru events are coming up for the next three Thursdays on Oct. 20, Oct. 27, and Nov. 3, each from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church, located at 1211 W. BETHALTO - Senior Hannah Meiser is already having a year to remember at Civic Memorial, and she's just getting started. She runs cross-country in the fall, plays basketball in the winter, and runs track in the spring. According to her cross-country coach Jake Peal, "She had a great summer of training and probably the best she has had in cross country." All of that hard work paid off for her Thursday afternoon at Principia College. She won the Mississippi Valley Conference Championships with a time of 18:27.80. "One of her goals was to win a conference title and she did it on Thursday," Peal said. "An individual title in cross country was on her bucket list of achievements." Olive the burial place of the great labor agitator and champion of mining families, Mary Harris Jones, is the site of a celebration in remembrance of a seminal victory of the United Mine Workers of America coal miners at Virden, Illinois on October 12, 1898. The coal company locked the union miners out of the mine and brought in a trainload of hungry men, most were Black men, all desperate for work to feed their families. Armed detectives accompanied the would-be miners on the train. As the train approached the Virden mine a gun battle began. Miners and guards died. The Union miners prevailed and went back to work. ST. LOUIS, MO. — Just as most cars need to be refueled constantly, so does the nation’s blood supply. The American Red Cross has faced a concerning drop in blood and platelet donations this summer. Donors are needed to make an appointment to give in August to help prevent a blood shortage. The decline in donations has caused the Red Cross blood supply to shrink nearly 20% in recent weeks. The availability of blood products will continue to decline if donations do not increase. People should not wait until they hear there is a blood shortage to give. Type O negative blood donors and platelet donors are especially needed now. “This is a concerning trend that may soon make it tougher to keep blood products stocked on hospital shelves,” said Paul Sullivan, Red Cross senior vice president of donor services. “By choosing a time to give now, donors can help pump up the blood supply for those in immediate need of lifesaving care and those who rely on transfusions
