A rapid rise in Covid-19 hospitalizations has led BJC HealthCare to postpone elective procedures starting Thursday, Jan. 6.
Hospital officials said it was a difficult but necessary decision. There were more than 500 people hospitalized for Covid-19 across BJC’s system Tuesday.
“This is beyond anything we’ve seen thus far in the pandemic,” a spokesperson wrote in a Wednesday morning media alert.

Add Ballpark Village to the list of sites where St. Louisans can get tested for Covid-19 during the week.
The popular downtown hangout spot first launched a testing clinic back in November to coincide with the testing or vaccination requirements at Enterprise Center. Ballpark Village was a place where Blues fans could get tested before going to a game.

St. Louis County Council votes to adopt new mask mandate
The St. Louis County Council voted Tuesday to adopt a new mask mandate in the county as Covid-19 cases increase in the county.
The council voted 4-3 in favor of the new mandate, which will require all people over the age of 5 to wear a mask "while in indoor and enclosed public buildings and spaces and public transportation" in St. Louis County. The mandate does not apply to people who are eating or drinking or people alone in separate rooms or offices of public places.

The number of Covid-19 patients in St. Louis task force hospitals surpassed the 1,000 mark for the first time Tuesday. It’s the latest record-breaking number as the omicron variant continues to surge through the St. Louis area following the holidays.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Pandemic Task Force, a consortium of local health systems, said there are 1,023 Covid patients in task force hospitals, which topped Monday’s daily hospitalization record of 964 patients.

Toyota passed General Motors to become the U.S. leader in auto sales, according to 2021 sales figures announced on Tuesday.
