A St. Louis-based startup with a goal of developing affordable wind turbines for commercial buildings is making the move to Birmingham, Alabama, after participating in Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator and receiving an Innovate Alabama grant.
The company, Accelerate Wind, is planning to relocate its headquarters to Birmingham within the next couple of months, and it currently has office space in Hardware Park, a business campus downtown there.

JERSEYVILLE - This year’s Gold Star Mothers & Family Ceremony is scheduled for 2-3 p.m. Sunday, September 25, on the grounds of the Jersey County Courthouse, located at 201 W. Pearl St. in Jerseyville. A Gold Star mother/family is one that has lost a son or daughter in active service to the U.S. Armed Forces, and the ceremony is meant to honor those lost loved ones. Teresa Molloy-Burkman, a Gold Star family member, said it’s always “heartwarming” to see the community show their support. “It’s very heartwarming to see the folks that turn out to honor the mothers and the families of our fallen. It’s a different sort of Mother’s Day … it’s just a way to let folks know that you haven’t forgotten,” she said. “It’s an honor, but it’s not one you wish on everybody. A Poplar Bluff woman says that on Saturday she did in two hours what local authorities hadn't been able to finish in seven years: bring her murdered son’s remains home. Butler County Coroner Jim Akers confirmed to the RFT that over the weekend, Edward Goodwin’s remains were recovered from a pond northwest of Poplar Bluff, near the intersection of State Highway T and County Road 572. Connie Goodwin, 57, tells the RFT that her family drained the unnamed pond themselves with rented machinery after five years of local law enforcement delaying a complete search of the pond.
