LOUIS COUNTY: On Wednesday, March 16, 2022, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued warrants on suspect Leon Bell, 37 years of age, of the 1600 block of Helen Street in St. Louis, Missouri 63106, for four counts of Statutory Sodomy or Attempted Statutory Sodomy – Person Less Than 12 YOA, four counts of Child Molestation 2 nd Degree – Child Less Than 12 YOA, and Statutory Rape or Attempted Statutory Rape – Person Less Than 12 YOA. A mugshot of Bell is attached. Bell is being held on a $500,000 cash only, no 10%, bond. Please note, charges are merely an accusation and Defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law. GRANITE CITY - GCS Credit Union will award a $2,000 scholarship to one high school senior in early May. GCS opens their Nicole R. Thorp Scholarship for the thirteenth year. Candidates are required to submit an essay explaining why saving and budgeting are important habits to develop. GCS supports youth in growing and reaching their savings goals and wants to hear how teens have succeeded. GCS also looks for applicants who actively volunteer in the community. Nicole R. Thorp, who the scholarship is named after, was a big believer in the credit union philosophy of people helping people. SPRINGFIELD - While consumer prices and the price at the pump continue to rise, House Republican lawmakers, including State Representative Amy Elik (R-Fosterburg) are advocating for reforms to provide relief for Illinois families. St. Louis County Releases Name In Homicide In Florissant, MO.
ST. LOUIS - The victim in the homicide in the 1400 block of Dunn Road in St. Louis County has been identified as Brandon Lockhart, 19 years of age, of the 3400 block of Brookshire Drive in Florissant, Missouri, 63033. At 2:20 p.m. March 15, 2022, St. Louis County Police Officers from the North County Precinct responded to a call for service for sudden death in the 1400 block of Dunn Road, the Budget Inn. Officers discovered an adult male deceased in a room in the hotel. Further investigation revealed the death to be a homicide. The investigation is very active at this time. Additional information will be disseminated as it becomes available. NGRREC Research Findings Highlight Strategy to Manage Japanese Hops Invasion
EAST ALTON – New research findings from local Terrestrial Ecologist Lyle Guyon are changing the game for Japanese hops control and management in large floodplains. Guyon, who holds a doctorate in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is a senior scientist at Lewis and Clark Community College’s National Great Rivers Research and Education Center (NGRREC sm ) and has over 15 years of experience in floodplain research. His recent paper, “Japanese Hops ( Humulus japonicus ) Control and Management Strategies in Large River Floodplains” was published in the Journal of Forestry earlier this spring. “Japanese hops is a fairly new invasive species that many individuals may not be familiar with,” Guyon said. “Unfortunately, it is spreading rapidly and can create a real problem where it takes hold.” His research findings show that the most effective long-term strategy to manage Japanese

81-Year-Old Granite City Woman Tragically Loses Life In Fire
GRANITE CITY - An 81-year-old Granite City woman - Anna M. Rookard - tragically lost her life in a fire Wednesday night, March 16, 2022, in the 3100 block of West Chain of Rocks Road in Granite City, Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn said Thursday morning. The fire was reported to 9-1-1 at approximately 11:33 p.m. Wednesday. Nonn said Rookard was pronounced deceased at the scene by Madison County Coroner’s Office Investigator Kelsey Jones at 12:30 a.m., March 17, 2022. When Mitchell Fire Department Units arrived at the scene, they found the residence to be fully engulfed in flames. When the fire was extinguished Rookard’s body was then located inside of the residence. The coroner said an autopsy examination has been completed and the preliminary findings of the examination show that the decedent suffered from smoke inhalation. A final cause and manner of death will be issued upon completion of toxicological testing and the investigation. The cause of the fire remains
