ALTON - Alton Elite Jiu-Jitsu will host their grand opening this Friday and the community is invited. From 4–8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, community members can stop by Alton Elite at 2716 Corner Court in Alton for free food, drinks, live music, giveaways and more to celebrate the martial arts studio’s relocation and rebranding. Owner Adam Marburger can’t wait to share his work with the community, and he expressed his appreciation for their help during the transition.

ALTON - Ella Valyo, who swims for the girls team at Alton High School, had good performances in her events at the IHSA Swim Sectional meet on Nov. 8, 2025, at the Chuck Fruit Aquatic Center in Edwardsville. She stepped up unselfishly to swim the butterfly leg of the 200-yard medley relay team when no other swimmer volunteered, and helped the Redbirds to an 11th-place finish at 2:36.20, and also finished 25th in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:20.56. ALTON - Alton native Cloyed R. Boomershine served as a ball turret gunner in the 8th Air Force during World War II from 1941 to 1945. Boomershine, who died on July 10, 1994, was always proud of his Air Force service and of his family. His role as a ball turret gunner on a B-17 bomber placed him in a critical position responsible for defending the aircraft during missions.
