In 1803, the United States Senate ratified the Louisiana Purchase treaty, doubling the size of the young nation and setting the stage for westward expansion. This acquisition from France added approximately 828,000 square miles of territory, dramatically reshaping the geopolitical landscape of North America and influencing the cultural and economic trajectory of the country. Fast forward to 1944, during World War II, the Battle of Leyte Gulf began in the Philippines. This battle is considered one of the largest naval battles in history and was a decisive victory for the Allied forces.
