ALTON – The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced upcoming lane closures on the U.S. 67 Clark Bridge over the Mississippi River that will impact traffic flow. The lane closures will occur Thursday, June 23, Friday, June 24, and Monday, June 27, through Thursday, June 30. IDOT said these lane closures are necessary to allow for the completion of routine inspections scheduled for the structure. IDOT also said that motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. "Motorists should avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered," IDOT added. "Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices, and be alert for workers and equipment." ALTON - Aldermen in the Committee of the Whole Meeting on Tuesday agreed on a plan to proceed with the first phase of the Riverview Drive Construction project with a unanimous vote. GeoStabilization International, of Commerce, Colorado, will handle the retaining wall construction. The cost for Phase 1 of this project is estimated at $3,498,440. A total of 25 percent of the $3-million-plus cost will be paid through Rebuild Illinois funds. The issue will be presented at Wednesday night’s Alton City Council meeting for final approval. Alton Mayor David Goins said he is excited to see the Riverview Drive project moving through the council for approval. After the retaining wall part of the project is completed, he said the next step will be streets, sidewalks, and sewer work in the second phase. “This has been a long process and we are finally glad this day has arrived, and hopefully within a month or so we will begin Phase 1 of the Riverview Project,” Mayor Goins said.

BETHALTO - The sign wasn't up for very long, but it did get a lot of people talking. Could the Riverbend area finally be getting a Chick-fil-a? Well, Bethalto Police Department said that it was too good to be true as the sign was put up as a prank Tuesday morning. After a public works employee notified the police about the sign, they came out quickly to take it down and confirmed that a Chick-fil-a is indeed not coming to Bethalto at the present time. The trend of putting up these "Coming Soon" signs came about from the viral video app TikTok. Such pranks could be deemed as a violation of the city ordinance, but since authorities are unsure of who put up the sign, it looks as if no further action will be taken, the Bethalto Police said. The Bethalto PD did take to their Facebook page and made the best out of the situation.

ALTON - Alton Deputy Police Chief Jarrett Ford today announced there are charges after a report last week on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, of gunshots and a subsequent traffic crash in the area of the Clark Bridge. "Today, the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the facts of the investigation and authorized a criminal charge of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm against Jerone C. Hornbeak, 23, of St. Louis," Ford said. "Hornbeak is in custody at the Alton Jail." Ford continued: "Officers responded and located a vehicle that left the roadway and struck a tree on the southwest end of the Clark Bridge in Missouri. "The subject reportedly attempted to steal a lawn mower from Ace Hardware at approximately 1:10 p.m. on June 20, 2022," Bethalto Police Chief Mike Dixon said. EDWARDSVILLE - Edwardsville’s Alicia Diaz is following a family line with her major in the prestigious University of Arizona College of Engineering. Alicia finished on the Dean’s List for the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters. Her father, Jon, is a retired engineer. Roberto Diaz, her grandfather, and Octavio Diaz, her great-grandfather, were also engineers. Roberto and Octavio were both from Chile and moved to the United States in 1955. Alicia is the daughter of Sue and Jon Diaz of Edwardsville. She just recently completed her freshman year at the University of Arizona. Alicia is home for the summer and is also an active motorcyclist. This summer she is involved at SIUE as an instructor for motorcycles. CHICAGO – The Illinois State Police (ISP) is warning the public not to engage in aggressive driving behaviors as the number of reported road rage incidents resulting in expressway shootings is increasing. Motorists are not only at risk of being involved in a traffic crash due to road rage but there is now the danger of being involved in an expressway shooting. “Over the past year, we’ve seen an increase in reported road rage incidents escalating into violence,” said ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly. “As we head into summer, high temperatures can lead to hot tempers and people losing their cool, even the dangerous or deadly use of firearms.
