TRILLA, Ill. — The Illinois State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a small, single-engine plane that occurred Friday morning in Trilla, Illinois, resulting in the deaths of all four people on board. The crash happened at approximately 10:15 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2025, on County Road 1400 N, near the intersection of 551-587, about three miles south of Mattoon in Coles County, according to the Illinois State Police. The Coles County Sheriff’s Department initially contacted ISP to investigate the incident. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are also involved in determining the cause of the crash. All four occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. The aircraft remained in the roadway, which was closed until around 5 p.m. on April 20. The Coles County coroner identified the victims as Ross R. Nelson, 46; Raimi A. Rundle, 45; Courtney L. Morrow, 36; and Michael H. Morrow, 48 — all from Menomonie, Wisconsin.

BELLEVILLE — Belleville Police are investigating a reckless discharge of a firearm after multiple shots were reported in the area of Dale Allen Drive and Chaucer Drive on the evening of April 16, 2025. At approximately 7:30 p.m. on April 16, Belleville officers responded to calls of gunfire and found two unoccupied parked vehicles that bullets had struck. No injuries were reported in the incident. Police recovered evidence at the scene and learned from witnesses that two groups of juveniles were involved in the shooting. Detectives and the Crime Scene Unit arrived to continue the investigation. Belleville Police said two juveniles found near the scene were interviewed and detained by officers. Detectives have identified the two groups involved and are in the early stages of the investigation. CHICAGO – Attorney General Kwame Raoul, with Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, today announced they have joined the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) lawsuit to block the acquisition of Surmodics Inc. (Surmodics) by GTCR BC Holdings LLC (GTCR) alleging that the deal, which seeks to combine the two largest manufacturers of critical medical device coatings, is anticompetitive. “The proposed acquisition of Surmodics by a private equity firm represents a troubling trend of wealthy investors attempting to limit competition and innovation in a market while extracting advantages that come from eliminating competitors,” Raoul said. “If approved, this acquisition would increase prices for Illinois residents by putting profits before people. SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) announced today that nonfarm payrolls increased +14,800 (+0.2%) over-the-month to a record high of 6,172,300 in March. The previous record was set in December 2024, with 6,161,000 jobs. Additionally, the February monthly change in payrolls was revised from the preliminary report of -6,500 to +900. The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.8 percent in March, while the revised unemployment rate was 4.8 percent, unchanged from the preliminary February unemployment rate. The March payroll jobs estimate and unemployment rate reflect activity for the week including the 12th. PONTOON BEACH – The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that nightly ramp closures at the Interstate 270/Illinois 111 interchange in Madison County will begin, weather permitting, at 9 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2025. At an April 8, 2025 “workshop” meeting of the City Council, several past, present, and future street projects around Jerseyville were discussed between city officials. Hollow Avenue One major project taking place in the near future is the next phase of Hollow Avenue improvements . The narrow, deteriorated road has long had no sidewalk and sight-distance issues for drivers. CHICAGO – Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced a $12 million settlement with Direct Energy Services LLC (Direct Energy) that resolves allegations the alternative retail electric supplier (ARES) engaged in fraudulent, unfair and deceptive business practices to mislead Illinois consumers into paying millions of dollars more for electricity than consumers who stayed with their default public utility. A consent judgment entered by the Cook County Circuit Court will provide restitution to eligible Illinois customers who received residential electricity supply services from Direct Energy between 2013 and April 2025.
