Senior Emily Baker Praised For Offensive Abilities - Is An Auto Butler Female Athlete Of The Month For Alton

2 years 5 months ago
ALTON - The Alton Redbirds girl's soccer team can consider themselves lucky that they have such a lethal attacker on their side. That would be none other than senior forward Emily Baker. She burst onto the scene last season with an impressive 31-goal campaign. She is already off and running this season with eight goals in just five games. For her continued success, Emily is an Auto Butler Athlete of the Month for the Redbirds. Usually, the fastest player on the field, Emily uses her speed and agility to get behind defensive lines constantly. Whenever she is on the field, the other team must know where she is at all times. Saturday, against the defending two-time IHSA Class 2A state champions Triad Knights, Emily scored a brace to get her team back into the game. Alton went down 2-0 after the first half, but Emily's two second-half strikes, one being a penalty, tied the game back up at 2-2. Although the Redbirds went on to lose the game, Triad head coach Matt Bettlach still praised

Attorney General Raoul Announces Passing Of Utilities Bill

2 years 5 months ago
SPRINGFIELD - Attorney General Kwame Raoul today announced the Illinois House of Representatives passed his legislation to protect vulnerable residents from gas or electric utility service disconnection for nonpayment of bills when temperatures are 90 F or above, or when the National Weather Service issues an excessive heat watch, heat advisory, or excessive heat warning. Raoul initiated House Bill 1541, which was sponsored by Sen. Mattie Hunter and Rep. Eva-Dina Delgado, to amend the Public Utilities Act (PUA), which currently prohibits disconnection when the temperature is 95 F or hotter. However, the PUA does not account for extreme heat events when the heat index may rise to a dangerous level when temperatures are below 95 F. “Summertime heat in Illinois is not the time to put lives at risk. Too often do Illinois residents die in heat waves that can easily be prevented by lowering the threshold for utility shutoffs,” Raoul said. “This updated legislation will

Wire Brush Bristles: The Worst BBQ Ingredient

2 years 5 months ago
Spring has sprung, and that means grilling season has come back after its winter hibernation. But as Americans enjoy grilling their burgers, chicken, vegetables and more, there’s one ingredient you want to steer clear of. “These short, metal brushes that you clean your grill with,” Brian Curtis, M.D., vice president of the Clinical Specialty Services at OSF HealthCare says. “There are about 150-200 cases a year that occur in the United States. They may be underreported, but those are the ones that we know about.” While barbecues over an outdoor grill are a great way for people to come together and enjoy a meal, Dr. Curtis says it could be an extremely painful experience if you end up swallowing a bristle from a wire brush. “The bristles can become embedded in your tongue. They can be embedded in the back of your throat, esophagus, stomach, and small intestine,” Dr. Curtis says. “They can cause perforations, because it’s

The recent vote upholding the City’s Home Rule Status by its citizens was the largest factor leading to this rating. Additional factors include growth in reserves and liquidity through strong financial management, which includes long-term liability management (elimination of debt service), economic developing leading to revenue growth, and management of overall spending to maintain and grow reserves. Local Aesthetic Physician Educates Public on the Benefits of Collagen in Aging

GLEN CARBON - Many people might be unaware that collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body, found in bones, muscles and tendons. It’s also responsible for helping people maintain a youthful appearance. Kristen M. Jacobs, MD, aesthetic physician, best-selling author of “Live Life Beautifully (With a Little Help)” and owner of Ooh La La Spa, Anti-Aging & Wellness, is educating people on the benefits of using products and services that help your skin produce more collagen. “I am always so excited to help people understand the important role collagen plays as you age,” Dr. Jacobs said. “Collagen is a protein found in your skin’s connective tissue, and it can help slow down aging, wrinkles and increase skin elasticity.
